Single soldiers who are hoping to find love on a social networking site would be wise to offer plenty of information when speaking to a potential partner online.

Denise Ngo writes on Your Tango that women will be more trusting of men if they open up about their life, feelings and what they like doing.

"A guy who refuses to talk about his life or his feelings reveals something he’s compelled to hide – be it a secret wife and family or more likely, a shy personality or his own dose of trust issues," she says.

Ms Ngo goes on to add that the way a person conducts himself online is also very important to women looking for love. She suggests it’s important to make sure your profile on an internet dating site is as close to your offline personality as possible.

Recent research by Chadwick Martin Bailey revealed that single soldiers may be more likely to find love online than in a bar or nightclub.

The study showed that 17 per cent of people questioned had met their significant other on the internet, in comparison to 11 per cent who met while on a night out.
