A singer-songwriter from Winchester has produced a single to raise money for brave soldiers wounded in battle.

Nina Schofield released Slow Down Soldier to generate funds for Help for Heroes after reading comments made by Dame Vera Lynn, who claimed current artists are not supporting the troops, BBC reports.

Musicians from the City of Southampton Orchestra feature on the track, while Ms Schofield has been taking part in live performances in support of the cause around Surrey and Hampshire.

The 21-year-old said: "I felt compelled to put in a more dedicated and personal contribution."

Everybody involved in putting the song together lent their services and equipment for free, while all the cash raised from sales will be donated to Help for Heroes.

David Partridge, Sarah Parsons and John Gatson – who are all involved in the running of Basingstoke Town Football Club – are to walk 18 miles in support of the cause, the Basingstoke Gazette reported.
