The Rifles Regiment are to be granted Freedom of the Borough of Shropshire this Saturday (May 29th) and they will also be given a special treat to say a big thank you for all they have done.

According to Lynn News, gifts will be exchanged between members of Telford and Wrekin Council and members of the armed forces.

The soldiers will give a silver bugle to the authority and in return they will receive specially-commissioned tiles designed by artist Michelle Cox from the Craven Dunhill Company.

Each tile will bear the inscription ‘To mark the honour of Freedom of the Borough of Telford and Wrekin, conferred upon the Rifles Regiment on May 29th 2010’.

Andrew Eade, leader of the local authority, told the newspaper that he hopes as many people as possible turn out for the event and welcome the troops home with a special celebration.

The 3 Rifles Regiment were given a hero’s welcome earlier this month at a homecoming parade in Edinburgh, with hundreds of people lining the route from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace to cheer them on.
