Shooting day raises thousands for Help for Heroes

Help for Heroes has gained thousands of pounds thanks to the generosity of participants in a shooting day.

Members of Spennymoor and District Clay Pigeon Gun Club in Fishburn held an event on Sunday (October 13th) with the charity in mind, reports the Northern Echo.

Organiser Phil Bartlett has yet to provide a final figure of how much was raised on the day, but he hopes it will hit the £6,000 mark.

"It's been an absolutely brilliant day. It started a bit quiet but it got so much busier," he explained.

All of the money raised at the shooting day in the north-east will go towards Help for Heroes' new recovery centre in Catterick.

Several competitions were held on the day, with Lee Jackson coming out on top in the 50 open shooting category, while John Adams won the down the line contest.

The quality of shooting was described as top-class by Mr Bartlett, despite the poor weather.
