A cake sale, bouncy castle and more all featured in a recent London event which raised cash for service charity Help for Heroes (H4H).

This is Local London reports that London Road's Bromley United Services Club held the weekend event, which also featured band performances.

Attracting attendees across ages from six months old to 93, some 200 people came to enjoy the event.

And the occasion brought in more than £600 that will go to Help for Heroes.

"We were really pleased how it went. We couldn't believe how much support we had from local businesses. It was a really fun day, everyone enjoyed themselves, it was a lovely atmosphere and a great cause," commented Stephanie Ansell, who organised the event, to the news provider.

The raffle prizes for the event were donated by businesses in the local area. Starbucks offered a coffee set, for example, with VIP tickets for Lingfield Park racecourse among the other prizes.

Help for Heroes is one of the best known service charities in the UK. It helps sick, wounded and injured service people, such as British soldiers, as well as their families.

Alongside the Confederation of Service Charities, Coming Home, Combat Stress, SSAFA and the Royal British Legion, it is being helped by Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red at the Tower of London.

This is an upcoming installation at the Tower featuring ceramic poppies that is linked the 100th anniversary of World War One. The poppies involved are being sold for the group of charities.

The over 800,000 poppies in Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red all represent someone from Britain who died in the war, which raged from 1914 to 1918.

Other high profile fundraising for Help for Heroes in the past has included two singles performed by UK X Factor contestants.

'Heroes' in 2010 featured singers such as Rebecca Ferguson and Matt Cardle, while Hero in 2008 featured Alexandra Burke, among others, and also helped the Royal British Legion.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801737579-ADNFCR
