An ex-serviceman is to take part in the Brighton Marathon on April 18th in order to raise money for the Help For Heroes charity, it has emerged.

David Henry, who now works as a security contractor in Iraq, told the Northern Echo that he is running the marathon after a close friend of his, Corporal Lee Brownson, recently died while on foot patrol in Helmand Province.

"I decided to do the marathon as soon as I got back and thought this would be a good way to raise money for Help For Heroes," Mr Henry explained to the paper.

He has now set up a website where people can donate to the charity and the webpage also remembers Rifleman Luke Farmer, who died alongside Corporal Brownson on January 15th.

Help For Heroes supports soldiers who have been wounded and was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry in October 2007.
