An event based on the Second World War is being organised in an attempt to raise funds for hero soldiers.

Blakemere Craft Centre is putting on the war-themed get-together and proceeds from the spectacle will go to Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion, the Northwich Guardian reports.

The venue said it would like other local groups that own period vehicles and other relevant items to get involved in the gathering, which is to be held on May 29th 2011.

Ginny Brookes-White, manager at the centre, said: "The Second World War is a period that always seems to fascinate, from the fashions to the food."

It is hoped people will come along on the day and help "create some authentic wartime spirit", she added.

A golf fundraiser recently held at Eccleston Park helped generate around £3,800 for the Help for Heroes charity, despite its target amount being only £1,000, the Liverpool Daily Post reported.
