A range of fundraising activities are being organised in Scunthorpe for the third annual Armed Forces Day.

Taking place on June 30th, a series of events have been planned for the Messingham Grange Recreation and Showground, the Scunthorpe Telegraph reports.

A father and son are completing a sponsored walk of the Yorkshire Wolds National Trail to collect cash for various military charities.

Tony and Wayne Murphy will cover a distance of 79 miles with 30kg bags on their backs.

"I have done a lot of long distance walking before and we needed funds for the day so I decided to organise a trek," Tony Murphy stated.

He continued by saying that 30,000 people living in Scunthorpe have connections with the armed forces and so the event is always well supported.

On the day itself, individuals can expect to see military displays and entertainment, while a pie and peas supper will be laid on.
