A charity scooter ride that included more than 50 participants raised money for Help for Heroes and was dedicated to a soldier who died from a brain haemorrhage.

Bikers from a range of scooter clubs joined forces in the route, which took just under one hour to complete, the Southport Visiter reports.

Warrant Officer Robert Wainman had served with the 4th Battalion, Duke of Lancaster Regiment prior to his death last year.

Karen Hoult helped to organise the charity event and said: "Rob was very passionate about the army and his Lambretta scooter, so it seemed only right to bring both things together to celebrate his life a year on. It was a great day."

Another sporting event in aid of Help for Heroes is being organised by Runcorn Linnets Supporters Club and will see a number of sides battle it out on the football pitch as part of a tournament on July 31st, the Runcorn and Widnes Weekly News reports.
