A group of children are to dress up in the colours of Help for Heroes as part of a nationwide celebration.

Heroes Day is taking place on Friday (October 21st) and will see children come in to school dressed as a person who inspires them.

Pupils at Horndean Infants are to dress up in red, dark blue or light blue in memory of Richard Hollington, a member of the armed forces who was killed in Afghanistan, the Portsmouth News reports.

Horndean Infants headteacher Becky Greenhalgh said: "Help for Heroes is a charity I believe we should all support. It's one way of helping and showing our respect to the soldiers."

She added it is important children understand the value of the sacrifices made by army personnel, regardless of their age.

The fundraiser is to take part through the UK and others school children will come dressed as their own heroes, such as Buzz Lightyear, George Best or their mum.
