Famous golfer Sam Torrance has shown his support for Help for Heroes by handing over a sizeable cheque to the charity.

The sports star teamed up with Mark Foster to attend a special ceremony at Wentworth, where a cheque for £237,220 was given to the good cause, reports Today's Golfer.

Torrance presented the money to the charity's head of external operations Mark Elliott and Band of Brothers member Mark Taylor.

All of the funds will be put towards supporting members of the armed forces who have seen their lives turned upside down by injuries or illnesses sustained while serving their country.

"It's a huge amount of money going to a very deserving cause. May it do an awful lot of good for those who seriously need it as a result of serving our country," Torrance stated.

He attended the presentation in his role as a patron of the National Golf Club Challenge, the same position held by Foster.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801663474-ADNFCR
