A man from Salisbury has raised over £7,000 for military charity Help for Heroes (H4H).

Martin Docking was inspired to organise a series of fundraising events after his son Sam cheated death while serving in Helmand Province in Afghanistan, the Salisbury Journal reports.

The 18-year-old – a member of the 1 Rifles – stepped on an improvised explosive device while on foot patrol, but it failed to go off.

As well as organising a charity clay pigeon shoot at the Piggery, Mr Docking also grew and then shaved off his beard and hair in an effort to collect as much money as possible for H4H.

Mr Docking said: "The response from clubs, pubs, shops and individuals has been truly fantastic."

He added all of the money that has been raised will go towards helping all injured servicemen and women, on top of the staff and facilities at Tedworth House.
