A 100-mile relay run has been completed to raise money for The Baton charity.

Among those who took part in the initiative was former Olympic gymnast Suzanne Dando, the Oxford Mail reports.

Dando, seven other civilians and a number of members of the armed forces participated in the mammoth race.

"We all had our low points, but we cheered each other up and we took it in turns to keep each other going," she noted.

The run started off at RAF Brize Norton and finished up at the National Memorial Arboretum.

Operated by volunteers, the Baton seeks to instil pride, hope and courage in people about what military personnel have done for them.

Alan Rowe, who founded the organisation, said he was delighted the event had been such a success.

A cheque for £1,000 was given to the RAF Benevolent Fund and £500 was handed over to National Memorial Arboretum.
