Some £20,000 has been raised by the charity Rugby for Heroes to help members of the armed forces.

The amount was raised through the hosting of a series of events, such as quiz nights, dinners and a calendar, This Is Gloucestershire reports.

Now Gloucester's Mike Tindall, patron of the good cause and England's most-capped centre, is keen to grow the charity even more.

He observed 20 tables have already been sold for next year's dinner, which showcases how backing for the scheme is growing.

"When you get that sort of support it is brilliant because it means you can go away and plan things as you know all of those guys will always be there supporting," Tindall remarked.

The money goes toward weekend courses designed to help former forces personnel adjust to civilian life.

Former Gloucester players Ryan Lamb and Anthony Allen are trustees of the charity.
