A charity rugby match is to be staged in an effort to generate money for the Help for Heroes charity.

Organised by local Flatbury resident Edward Cross, the game will see a Help for Heroes 15 – made up of current and former servicemen – pitted against an Evesham select outfit, the Evesham Journal reports.

Many of those participating for the charity team are from the local area, with some of them only having recently returned from serving in Afghanistan.

Mr Cross said: "I have played for the Evesham Veterans team a few times over the past year and was really keen to get a group of former military colleagues together to challenge them."

He added both teams will be eager to emerge victorious from the contest, but they will both perform in the true spirit of the game.

The Redditch Advertiser recently reported a team from recruitment company e-Response are to compete in a Tough Guy contest – which includes a daunting assault course – to generate cash for Help for Heroes.
