Organisers of a rock concert being held in aid of wounded soldiers hope the spectacle will raise around half a million pounds.

The Help for Heroes gig is to take place on June 11th next year for the Royal Highland Showground and the money generated will go to Help for Heroes, the Scotsman reports.

It is expected around 30,000 will make their way to Ingliston for the event, which is to be headlined by former Simple Minds bassist Derek Forbes and drummer Brian McGee.

The gig is being planned by Crimson Orange and the organisation hopes local talent will also get the opportunity to perform at the showcase.

Manager of the body Daniel Clifford said: "We want Edinburgh bands to come forward for the chance to play a 30-minute set in front of 30,000 people."

It was recently revealed finalists from the X Factor are to record the David Bowie song Heroes – with proceeds being donated to the Help for Heroes cause.
