A group of 20 walkers from the Lancashire town of Rochdale have come together to complete a journey on foot in aid of Help for Heroes.

Members of the Rotary Club of Rochdale East took part in the trek around Tandle Hills and Chadderton, raising about £1,300 in the process, reports Rochdale Online.

In addition, a special fun run for local students from Hopwood Hall College was organised, and that brought in roughly £3,000 for the charity.

Frank Hauxwell suggested the tragic death of Lee Rigby in Woolwich had helped the group collect money for their endeavour.

"The sadness around Lee Rigby certainly gave people a boost in raising money for this particular cause. I look forward to future cooperation with Help for Heroes and Hopwood Hall College."

It is the latest in a number of walks, runs and bike rides across the UK to have been held to raise money for the military charity.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801605271-ADNFCR
