The Rifles band is to play a special concert at Winchester Cathedral to raise money for the Care for Casualties Appeal.

It will take place on March 29th and there will be a mixture of regimental music and more modern material played, while special guests will include the Duke of Gloucester and the Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire Dame Mary Fagan, the Hampshire Chronicle reports.

Barry Lipscomb, who is the mayor of Winchester, has chosen the good cause as one of his official charities.

"Military music is a particular favourite of mine and this concert definitely feels like one of the highlights of my mayoral year," he added.

Mr Lipscomb continued by saying those who turn up at the event can expect to see a "magnificent evening of entertainment".

Since the Rifles were formed in 2007, they have been located in Winchester and members have seen action in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
