A Somerset garden centre has raised over £2,000 for the Royal British Legion (RBL).

All of the money received was thanks to the poppy appeal conducted by staff at Sanders Garden World, the Westonsupermare People reports.

Peter Burks, general manager of the store, said he was "delighted" with the sum of cash collected for the good cause.

"We have been supporting the charity for eight years and this year the total amount is the most we have ever collected," he added.

Mr Burks continued by saying that current and ex-servicemen and women will be able to get "financial, social and emotional support" thanks to the generosity of their customers.

Sally Wingate, poppy organiser in Brent Knoll for the RBL, stated she was "thrilled" by the amount of money the garden centre had managed to collect.

The first ever poppy appeal was held in 1921 and it was inspired by John McCrae's poem In Flanders' Fields.
