The work of Help for Heroes has been highlighted by the case of a former RAF veteran who has now found a new career.
Helen Bolland, 32, from Girvan worked as a RAF intelligence analyst in Iraq in 2005 but was medically discharged from the military in 2008 due to mental health problems, reports the Carrick Gazette.
She attended a Help for Heroes recovery centre in North Yorkshire and the experts on hand helped her to decide how she wants to spend the rest of her life.
With the support of the charity, she started an access course at Glasgow University and is planning to go on to study a law degree, which she admitted to being very excited about.
"Phoenix House has really given me the support I needed," Ms Bolland explained, adding: "I would like to work with veterans, helping them get what they need and being an advocate for veterans."
