Members of RAF Benson have so far raised more than £11,000 for injured soldiers after competing in an endurance event.

The team completed the Jungfrau Marathon in Switzerland and the money generated – which currently stands at around £11,600 – is being donated to the Help for Heroes charity.

Participants called the event "a truly amazing experience" and the cash collected means they have already matched the amount they received last year, when the group tackled the Munich Marathon.

The gang of ten, which also included two non-RAF friends, took part in the race on September 11th and before the challenge they said they have been overwhelmed by the generosity they've been shown – even by complete strangers.

Help for Heroes has been in the news of late, after Robbie Williams, Gary Barlow and other stars of the current music and comedy scene performed at the Heroes Concert, which took place at Twickenham Stadium.

People wishing to contribute to the total raised by the RAF Benson team can do so here.
