Prince Harry has used social media to urge everyone to support the forthcoming Invictus Games.

Harry, who doesn't have a Twitter account himself, hopped onto the official Invictus Games 2014 account to tell its followers: “Hope everyone will get behind #invictusgames. Great opportunity to support and thank the men and women who have given so much. Harry”.

According to games organisers, this is actually the first ever tweet that the prince, brother to the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, and son of the Prince of Wales and Princess Diana, has ever sent.

He tweeted from an iconic spot, too, the top of London's BT Tower. BT has just been announced as a sponsor for the Invictus Games.

The tweet marked the start of ticket sales for the games, which are happening at Queen Elizabeth Park in September 2014, and in which ill, wounded and injured servicemen and women will participate.

The games are set to see over 400 men and women competing from some 14 different countries between September 10th and 14th, with a driving challenge also put on by Jaguar Land Rover, which is the event's Presenting Partner.

Harry's tweet came ahead of 40,000 Invictus Games tickets being put on sale on May 16th.

The games have the support of the Ministry of Defence and the The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

The adaptive sports involved include road cycling, archery and wheelchair rugby and basketball.

Charity Help for Heroes is training and recruiting the British Armed Forces team of veterans and service people for the event.

Shortly before tickets went on sale, Invictus Games chair Sir Keith Mills, commented: "I’d urge people not to miss out on tickets when they go on sale – this is a unique opportunity to support and thank those who have served their countries so bravely.”ADNFCR-2867-ID-801721287-ADNFCR
