A brave soldier who was injured in Afghanistan has been awarded a medal by Prince Charles.

Private Sam Morgan was presented with the gong by the Prince of Wales during a visit to the Black Watch regimental museum at Balhousie Castle in Scotland, the Press Association reports.

The prince is the Royal Colonel of the Black Watch, Third Battalion of The Royal Regiment of Scotland and said he always tries to find time to pay his respects to as many of his soldiers as possible.

"I’m privileged enough to be involved in quite a lot of regiments over the years and I take all that side of things very seriously," he added.

Private Morgan, who has been in the Black Watch for six years before suffering foot injuries last May, attended the presentation with his mother, brothers and son.

The Queen recently visited Eton College to mark the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Combined Cadet Force and met some of the young men there who are hoping to serve their country in the near future.
