The town of Wootton Bassett is gearing up for a ceremony on Sunday (October 16th), which will see it commemorated and receive the Letters Patent on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen.

It will then officially become Royal Wootton Bassett, in honour of its role during the repatriations of fallen British troops that occurred between 2007 and September this year.

Road signs marking the new title have already been installed and unveiled to proud residents.

Sunday's ceremony will be attended by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, who will first visit the town library's Exhbition of Appreciation before being driven down the high street to a stage where a parade will occur.

Troops, the Wootton Bassett Band and the Royal Marines Band will all participate in the celebration and a number of scheduled flypasts will take place.

Council clerk Johnathan Bourne says: "A lot of hard work has gone into making this a really special day for the people of Wootton Bassett and I hope everyone enjoys it."

Endurance athlete Mike Buss recently ran more than 100 miles to deliver a petition to the government asking for the renaming of a repatriation route through the town.
