Police arrest parrot for swearing at woman

A parrot has been arrested after swearing at an 85 year-old woman, it has been revealed.

Janabai Sakharkar, of Maharashtra, India, claimed Hariyal the parrot used obscene language against her, whenever she passed by the house of her stepson Suresh.

Despite the fact that the foul-mouthed bird had the police "rolling on the floors in laughter" the incident still prompted officers to arrest the creature for its bad manners.

Ms Sakharkar was reportedly convinced that Suresh taught the creature to swear at her.

However, according to the Times of India, the parrot was initially smart enough to cease any bad language while in the presence of officers.

One theory put forward by the Times of India is that the parrot temporarily stopped hurling abuses at Janabai because it was in a new surrounding, and in the presence of strangers.

Police claimed that if Suresh had abused Janabai, it is possible the parrot heard him and copied him.

However, a reason behind the bizarre incident may have something to do with the fact there is an ongoing dispute over property going on between Janabai and Suresh.

Following the incident, the parrot was not returned to its original owners and was instead handed over to the Forest Department for rehabilitation.
