There are few places that would be worse to be when a bad smell hits than on a flight. In most situations, should a foul odour hit your nostrils, you could just move away, to another room, perhaps. However, when you happen to be 35,000 ft in the air, there are very few places you can go to escape it.

This is exactly the situation that passengers on a flight from Israel to the US found themselves in this past Friday (December 5th). Shortly after take off on the flight from Ben Gurion Airport to Philadelphia, passengers and crew alike started to smell a strange odour.

Rather than dissipate, the smell apparently got worse, and before long it had overtaken the cabin of the US Airways flight. The worst part is that it then started to make people vomit, and soon afterwards there was a chain reaction of people throwing up all over the plane.

As of yet, US Airways has not been able to ascertain what caused the smell to waft through the plane, but said it is working to find the root of the problem as soon as possible.

The plane was eventually forced into an emergency landing in Rome, after 14 members of the crew and passengers fell ill because of the smell. When in Rome, some were admitted to hospital to treat their illness, but all were released a short time later.

Recently, another flight was sent into chaos in the US, after a passenger shouted out that he had ebola, causing a panicked crew to land the flight and leading to men in hazmat suits storming the plane to remove the man from the flight.

The flight, which was going from Philadelphia, US, to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and as passengers filmed the chaos, the man was taken from the plane, before ebola was swiftly ruled out by local doctors. ADNFCR-2867-ID-801764956-ADNFCR
