Some 65 per cent of UK singles have looked at the social media profile of a potential suitor before going on a date with them.

This highlights how in the digital age individuals are keen to find out as much information as possible.

Over three-quarters of respondents admitted they had turned down a date after seeing the profile of the person they were due to meet, with disliking the profile picture (41 per cent) the most common reason for this.

Other reasons offered included a lack of humour (38 per cent), flirting with others (25 per cent) and over-sharing (21 per cent).

The study highlights how people have to be careful with what they choose to put on social media channels, as it could affect their chances of finding true love.

However, individuals still need to make sure they are able to showcase their true personality in a way that is appealing.
