Single soldiers serving abroad may be encouraged to learn online correspondence with a prospective partner overseas can often lead to love.

Psychologist Travis Gee has told the Sydney Morning Herald how a chance encounter with a woman – who lived on a different continent – over the web, resulted in marriage.

The Australian was browsing an online dating site when he came across the profile of a lady who caught his eye.

Mr Gee took his chances and messaged the female, who duly began returning his comments of affection.

"She had nothing else to do, so she responded to my messages," he revealed.

The pair started getting in contact with each other on a daily basis for a number of months, before Mr Gee flew to Tokyo with an engagement ring.

Writing for sofeminine.co.uk, Jo Middleton recently suggested those looking for romance on the web should make sure they use correct grammar when creating their profiles, as lack of it can prove a real turn-off.
