More than £2,000 has been raised by a charity calendar that saw binmen strip off in aid of Help for Heroes and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

A dozen workers from Scarborough Borough Council's waste and recycling departments joined the initiative, the Whitby Gazette reports.

And it has just been revealed that their efforts paid off, as some £2,033.60 has been collected for the two organisations.

Paul Margetts is just one of the men who removed their clothes and hid their modesty beneath pieces of recycling equipment.

He says: "Most of the lads involved are ex-forces, which gave them the incentive to get their kit off.

"Overall it was an excellent experience."

As well as showing support for soldiers, those participating in the calendar were hoping to spread the message that recycling should be encouraged.

They may well have taken inspiration from the original Calendar Girls, who bared all for charity and inspired a film and theatre production.
