An increasing number of weddings are taking place in Germany on the back of relationships struck up on online dating sites.

Henning Wiechers conducted a survey for Singleboersen-Vergleich.de and concluded that around a sixth of all marriages in the country this year had started on the internet.

He also suggested that the figures may not truly reveal the full extent of the number of people who are now relying on the web in order to find love.

"Many couples want to maintain the image of romantic love and don't tell the registrars they only got to know each other through the marriage mart," Mr Wiechers explained.

It is clear that online dating sites are becoming an increasingly popular way for couples to get together all over the world.

There are many advantages of this method when compared with more traditional ways of meeting people, including the fact online dating can be carried out at any time of the day or night to suit a person's circumstances.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801661986-ADNFCR
