Single soldiers who use online dating sites might find they learn to build up a certain level of trust with their love interests.
This was the case for veteran online dater Leigh Mosquera, who shared her experience with the Atlanta Post.
She explained she met a range of individuals in person, as a result of showing interest via various dating sites on the web.
"With online dating, nobody else that you know or trust knows that person, so you have to develop a trust factor before you put yourself out there," Ms Mosquera said.
This means the platform differs from being introduced to somebody by a friend or colleague and is actually more similar to meeting a potential partner in a bar.
Ms Mosquera succeeded with her online dating mission and went on to meet her husband via the web, which might be encouraging to those starting out with the practice.
A similar success story was recently reported by the BBC, which spoke to Kieron Lavers and Emma Stout, who met on the internet and were planning their marriage on the same day as the royal wedding.
