The internet could be an ideal route for single soldiers to find the right person as it offers a new way to screen prospective dates, it has been suggested.

Writing for Chicago Now, Jenina Nunez observed there can be no doubt online dating is a successful industry due to the popularity of such websites and the millions of users they attract.

The reporter noted the technique "seems like a useful and practical way to find a date".

Ms Nunez stated "internet is king" and revealed she herself had approached the medium and had met "some cool guys" as a result.

The option allows subscribers to look at possible partners beforehand and select the ones that are the most appealing to them, she added.

University of Washington researchers recently put forward the idea relationships can encourage good behaviour, as being in a couple reduces the likelihood of a single person drinking and smoking in order to meet people.
