People who would like to search for love via online dating sites have been advised they should avoid some of the most generic statements and activity on the internet.

Christie Hartman, a Denver-based psychologist, is quoted by 9News as saying many profiles are simply too generic to attract attention.

"They say 'I love the mountains, like skiing and going to the movies'. They don't give a sense of what they truly love, so they just sound like everybody else," she stated.

Another important area is the profile picture, so online daters should always ensure they choose a snap in which they are looking their absolute best.

Ms Hartman went on to suggest that first impressions are incredibly important on online dating sites, so people should not show anything that might put individuals off them.

It is also wise to avoid revealing details such as being widowed, divorced or a single parent, as these people could be targeted by the wrong users.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801587247-ADNFCR
