Single soldiers on the hunt for serious companionship are more likely to find what they are after through online dating portals than social networking sites, it has been suggested.

Relationship expert David Kamau said it is rare for long-term relationships to begin through websites that are not specifically designed for matchmaking – and those that do often occur more by accident than design, RNIF.com reports.

The specialist observed internet dating pages have been around for some time now and stated: "They have been meeting the needs of many people, regardless of their age or background."

Using this method can be done from home, while at work and even when travelling, Mr Kamau noted.

He added: "Your happiness, especially your love life, is too important be left to fate."

In a recent article for the Daily Mail, Joanne Hart stated hooking up via the web is not only popular in the UK, but is also widely practiced in countries such as the US, Australia and Germany.
