Online dating is an ideal option for single parents who have been separated or alone for some time and want the company of people their own age.

Janice Mahon, now aged 65, told the Poughkeepsie Journal she turned to this method of meeting someone after being widowed 27 years ago.

"I was told that if it was meant to be, I'd meet someone, but nobody was coming along so I had to do something," she explained.

Online dating proved to be perfect, as it allowed her to find the adult companionship she had missed since losing her husband.

The news source explains this can sometimes be a daunting prospect for those who have just come out of a long-term relationship and re-entered the world of being single.

It follows reports from the Huffington Post, which said using internet matchmaking sites can be appropriate for post-marital individuals who do not wish to head to bars and clubs to meet a potential partner.
