Single soldiers looking for love may want to join the "dating revolution" of internet courtship.

Writing for the Daily Record, Brian Mciver noted the number of people in Britain who have used online dating has doubled in the last four years.

The journalist claimed seven million individuals regularly log on to find companionship on the world wide web, while more than half of the 15 million single people in the UK have registered on at least one dating site.

Moreover, 16,000 hopefuls join up to the craze everyday, he added.

Sue Bourne, the woman behind a new BBC Scotland documentary that delves into the world of internet liaisons – entitled Wink, Meet, Delete – suggested the practice is becoming more widespread.

"It's a very modern social phenomenon and it's now something that has become much more socially acceptable and popular," she explained.

A recent study by the University of Wales found men are more concerned with looks, while women prefer guys with good social standing, when dating.
