For people who would like to meet a special someone but are reluctant to get out and about in order to find them, online dating could be right up their street.

A case study on SeattlePi.com has shown how the internet can make finding a prospective partner that little bit easier.

Singleton Emma turned to web courtship as an experiment, the website noted – and the move was to result in her finding romance after only a matter of months.

The portal noted the approach meant she did not feel pressured into trying to hook up with people in bars.

She explained: "It was nice to feel like I was being proactive in getting what I wanted, without constantly having to scope out every scene."

Los Angeles-based dating coach Evan Marc Katz recently told Philly.com that people need to try and distinguish themselves – through the language they use – to help them stand out from the crowd when online dating.
