Internet dating offers people the chance to meet others with similar interests.

This is according to an article in the Scotsman and the news provider observed finding the right location for a date should not be too hard if individuals enjoy the same pastimes.

"The advent of online dating has improved the chances of singles meeting someone who they might want to spend the rest of their lives with," the paper stated.

Many sites function in a manner similar to social networking portals, as they let people add friends, exchange messages and upload photos.

It is also becoming an increasingly less taboo way of meeting someone special, as more and more people give it a go.

Another benefit associated with web-based dating is that it offers single people the chance to build up a rapport with a person without having to meet them face-to-face.

This could appeal to anyone who struggles communicating with the opposite sex.
