Online dating is a great way for people to start a new relationship.

Couples psychologist Susan Quilliam told the Daily Mail that the medium is a great matchmaker, but it has to be used correctly.

She noted individuals are unlikely to meet Mr or Mrs Right in the street, so by going onto the web they are opening up a lot more options for themselves.

Ms Quilliam observed that people need to be prepared to go on a number of dates in order to be successful, as they should not jump into a relationship with the first person they meet face-to-face.

Instead, it is a much better idea to remain patient and look through numerous profiles in order to find a few that are interesting.

In terms of attracting potential suitors, people should try to make sure they have at least two flattering photos to go alongside a snappy message.
