Just because troops spend lots of time overseas, it doesn’t mean they have to put their love lives on hold, as new research has shown the world is getting onboard with online dating.

A poll of 10,976 internet users around the world by GlobeSpan found that nearly one in three singles think websites such as forcespenpals.co.uk are a great way to meet someone.

India and Pakistan have the highest number of people who believe in online dating, with 59 and 60 per cent of singles respectively using the web to find someone special.

More than a fifth of Americans also give the internet the thumbs up, while 28 per cent of Brits and 27 per cent of French people saying the same.

Sam Mountford, research director at GlobeSpan, said the results are evidence that online dating is the way forward.

"This shows what a major role the internet now plays in the lives of millions of people around the world," he added.

A recent study by OnePoll.com found that people in the US are the best looking in the world.
