Single soldiers looking to meet friends and potential partners may consider online dating sites.

The Guardian spoke to singleton Annette Hoffmann, who has used the platform to go on a number of dates and speak to new people.

She says she has met up with a number of people and when things have not worked out it is usually a result of "a lack of spark".

"But still, it's a nice evening getting to know a stranger and that's not a bad thing – I think you can learn a lot from people," Ms Hoffmann explains.

Some people may be tempted to go on many dates when they first join an internet dating site, but this can be time consuming and take a lot of effort, so being more selective might be a good idea, she adds.

And others may well meet Mr or Mrs Right, as the Daily Mail recently revealed Christine and Chris Rae got together and went on to marry after becoming internet penpals.
