Online dating has proved to be such a hit in recent years and thousands of people have found love thanks to the platform – now it seems its effect will be felt in other areas.

For instance, the BBC has told how a new online service designed to help disabled people find the perfect carer has taken on board certain elements of web-based matchmaking sites.

Care Pair will ask participants to choose their favourite food, music and films – just as online daters must do – before matching carers with those who need looking after.

Creator Russell Smith said: "You can choose from how much you like curry from one to five, or Italian. Then in the film section there's horror films and comedy and things like that."

Such a scheme shows how far online dating has come and how well regarded its matching ability is, now it is being used to pair up people with other requirements beyond love.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801580884-ADNFCR
