Single soldiers in search of a partner may be encouraged to learn that online dating is becoming widely used by women, a new survey has discovered.

The Scientific Research Centre released statistics that revealed the service is more popular among females in the UK than it is among men.

Based on trends of internet courtship over the last two years, the report found the numbers of ladies signing up to the web in search of a soulmate has escalated ten per cent in this time.

One respondent claimed online dating is an easier method to meet the right man than visiting pubs and clubs as the drinking culture in Britain means males often tend to be too drunk for suitable and sustained conversation.

Writing for the Financial Times, Emma Jacobs recently noted online dating has proven to be an effective tool in matchmaking as the medium has brought many couples together.
