People can turn to online dating sites for a multitude of reasons, including the potential to feel far more secure and less vulnerable.

The Independent has published a case study involving London lass Emily Wood, 28, who has revealed her experiences of using the web to find love.

She explained her belief that the major pluses of online dating include the potential to feel "much more secure in yourself".

While she admitted everyone is constantly making judgements of others, it can actually be reasonably empowering to have just as much of a say as anyone else.

Ms Wood went on to suggest that online dating is "less awkward" than real life, as prospective partners can easily be rejected from "behind a sort of smoke screen".

She finished by saying that she does not believe she would have been able to meet a partner without the help of online dating, as it is so easy to look for the wrong people in the real world.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801597078-ADNFCR
