One of the benefits single soldiers may find with online dating is that the practice allows users to be specific with their searches, it has been suggested.

The Scotsman looked at the case of a woman called Megan, a 36-year-old who began courting via the world wide web three years ago.

She noted she found the method appealing as it allows individuals to draw up a list of wants and demands that are presented to prospective partners in a friendly manner.

Of her specific requirements, Megan told the news provider: "I didn't want anybody who had kids or any kind of religious affiliation. I wanted someone who ideally had a dog."

She added the process made her feel attractive to the opposite sex as she received a lot of attention in the digital world.

Writing recently for the Daily Record, Brian Mciver claimed the number of people in Britain who have tried dating on the internet has doubled in the last four years.
