Single soldiers who use the internet to locate potential partners are not alone in their pursuits, it has been claimed.

The internet courting industry is now worth around £105 million, the Scottish Sun reports.

According to the newspaper, seven million people will attempt to hook up via the web this year, resulting in 12 million dates being organised.

It explained virtual hook-ups have never been more popular than they are now and revealed the option can enable users to search for partners from different geographical locations.

Wendy Reid, an online dater who found love through the medium, noted: "I knew I wasn’t going to meet a guy from Arbroath, where I was from … [I] wanted to look a bit further afield."

Relationship guru Chelsea Davison recently advised guys looking for a soulmate over the internet to be honest in their approach, as lying can be a real turn-off for women.
