In years gone by, some people might have been embarrassed about admitting they use online dating sites, but there is no longer any need to hide this information as so many people are in the same boat.

Earlier this year, GQ published a guide to its best online dating tips and noted the first thing is for everyone who has signed up to immediately "get over" the fact they are doing it.

The next piece of advice is to think carefully about a username, as this will set an initial impression for anyone who reads it. Pick a poor title and prospective matches could be turned off.

Individuals should also ensure they are themselves throughout their online dating journey, as trying to be something they are not will only end in tears.

Nobody should over-think online dating, just go with what comes naturally and wait to see who comes forward as a match.
