Instinct and common sense are required if people are to be successful with online dating.
This is according to dating coach Peter Spalton, who noted the process is all about finding the right connection.
Speaking to the Metro, he stated while science is playing an increasingly large role in the medium, people should not be afraid to make a snap judgement on someone.
While individuals should be looking out for those who have similar interests, Mr Spalton observed they need to make sure they do not share everything in common.
"Initially, you want to do everything together, but eventually the relationship has to continue and you have to lead your own life a bit as well," he added.
For many, the draw of online dating is the relative anonymity it offers people at the start.
As well as this, shy individuals or those who have come out of a long-term relationship may seek to use the service.
