While some men who join online dating sites might think mentioning their previous partners is a bad idea, it can actually be an incredibly successful tactic.

That is the view of a study published last month by Zoosk and reported by the Daily Telegraph, which urged men to open up about divorces and exes.

Relationships coach Susan Quilliam said women could be more likely to get in touch with a man who mentions a divorce as it reassures them that he is now single.

"If men talk about exes, women get the impression he's being honest and open about his relationship status now," she explained.

However, this does not necessarily work when the roles are reversed, as men can be put off the prospect of a woman who appears to have plenty of relationship history.

As such, it can be worth people of different genders taking a varying approach to online dating, changing how much they reveal to prospective partners.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801696427-ADNFCR
