Online dating can be a great way to meet a new partner, but those who use the platforms must be patient in their quest for love.

While it might sound like common sense, this approach is known to have worked for many, as a reader from the Toronto Star confirms.

The individual told Ellie, the publication's advice columnist: "After a 15-year marriage ended I gave online a try. Within a few weeks I met someone very nice. Years later we're still together. So be patient and have hope."

And Ellie explains internet dating sites are becoming increasingly mainstream, as many people find they do not have the time to go out and meet people in the more traditional way.

Online dating has certainly worked for Kieron Lavers and Emma Stout, who recently told the BBC they met on the web and are now gearing up for their wedding day, which is being held on the same day as the marriage between Prince William and Kate Middleton.
